Types Of Innovation-Decisions

Understanding the types of innovation-decisions is super important because it shows how different people or groups adopt new things. Some jump in early, while others take more time. Knowing these types helps plan how to introduce new ideas or products better.

It's like understanding who might try something new right away and who might take longer. This knowledge helps tailor approaches to match different preferences, making it easier to get more people on board with new and innovative stuff.

Three types innovation-decisions are:

1. Optional innovation-decision, choices to adopt or reject an innovation that are made by an individual independent of the decisions by other members of system. The Iowa farmers who adopted hybrid seed corn in the Ryan and Gross (1943) study made optional innovation-decisions. So did the medical doctors in Coleman and coleagues' (1966) investigation of the spread of a new drug.

2. Collective Innovation-decisions, choices to adopt or reject an innovation that are made by consensus among the members of a system. A city's decision to adopt a no-smoking ordinance, made by a referendum or by a vote of the city council, is a collective innovation-decision. Once the decision is reached, each individual must act accordingly. For instance, individuals who smoke in the bar, restaurant or other place (in city with a no-smoking ordinance) are arrested and find.

3. Authority Innovation-decisions, choices to adopt or reject an innovation that are made by a relatively few individuals in a system who possess power, high social status, or technical expertise. The CEO of a company may decide, as did the chief execution of Nokia, the finnish company dominant in manufacturing cellular telephones, that no company employees can send an e-mail attachment (out of concern for security). This authority innovation-decision is one with which the organization's employees must comply.
