Some Principles of Attitude Change by Dorwin Cartwright

1. When a group is used to make a change in attitude, keep in mind that the people who changed and those who seek to influence thechange must have a strong sense of belonging to the same group. In other words, the changes will be more easily done from within than from outside the group.

2. The values on which the existence of a group has a major influence on the attitudes, values or behavior of its members. For example groups of employers expected to affect the business values of its members on a religious value.

3. The more significant a group for its members, the greater the influence of groups on the attitudes, values and behavior of its members. For example, the influence of the family will be greater than the influence of a group called the crowd.

4. The higher the reputation of members in the eyes of other members, the greater the influence that can be made to the group.

5. Increasingly felt the need to change attitudes by members of the group, the easier the changes that occur.

6. The nature of a group is opposed to deviations from the minority.

7. The changes in some groups will lead to tensions and imbalances overall.
